The Battle of the Weekend Warriors Classic has been considered by many (most notably the Sports Illustrated magazine and Slam Streetball magazine) as being one of the most competitive classics in the nation. It has featured top players such as; Darryl 'SKY' Armstrong (Dallas Mavericks), Chris Wilcox (Oklahoma Thunder), Cedric Simmonds (Chicago Bulls), Raymond Sessions (Milwaukee Bucs), Anthony Grundy (Atlanta Hawks), Chucky Brown formerly of the Sacramento Kings, Raymond Felton (Charlotte Bobcats) and many more top college and pro basketball players from around the nation.
The classic, which started in Wilmington N. C. in 1989, has grown through the years because of strong support from businesses in the area and good media coverage, from WWAYTV3 and Cumulus Broadcasting who have played a large part in the growth of this classic. |
